This is the version of the F-4 Phantom that never made it off the drawing board. ...because the tail surfaces get caught in the dirty air behind the wing.
It might be a good idea if some people checked their facts before posting. The Shenyang J-8II may remind some of the Su-15, but it has nothing to do with it; China never even had Su-15s. The Shenyang J-8II is just an evolution of the original Shenyang J-8, but with a different forward fuselage. And the J-8 itself is based on MiG-21 technology; in fact it looks very much like an enlarged, twin-engined MiG-21 (an aircraft that the Chinese proved very adept at modifying).
Good detail on an aircraft one rarely sees. Reminds me of the classics of the past.
There isn't MiG copy, this is SU-15. Russian pilots called he "Dove of peace", because he had only two missile. ))
Good pic with sharp and clear detail. One must admit it's an ancient design - based on the Sukhoi 15 of the mid 60s to 70s, though the Su15 was a superb interceptor in its day. Agree that it's a "D" with the refuelling probe. Mind you, despite the age, it did its job in getting an EP3 into Chinese hands, didn't it?! (at the cost of the pilots life, I believe).
Is this a kind of China made MiG ???
To the Finnish visitor: The guy writing is from India, not the US. It seems so people are so slavishly anti-American, that they'll inject America-bashing even when an Indian guy rags on a outdated-looking Chinese military plane. India and China are historical rivals, FYI.
Made in China eh? :-) | |
A recipe for a Cineese fighter: slice some MiGs, put shake well and combine again. Voilà! ))))
Very elegant aircraft. Photograph does it justice.
3rd Rate Aircraft that collided with a PC-3. PLAAF needs these Junk.
