A visitor from United States posted Mon September 17, 2007:This aircraft N25811 is the only Continental Express ATR-42 involved in a fatal accident. It happened when a ramp agent walked into the propeller of the right running engine. She was trying to remove the wheel chocks and did not see the propeller spinning. The blade struck her head, killing her instantly. The right engine was running to provide electrical power and air-conditioning to the airplane. The airplane is equipped with a "prop brake" to keep the propeller from spinning while the engine is running, however, Continental Express directed pilots not to use the prop brake because it was prone to maintenance problems. After the accident, Continental Express changed the procedure, allowing pilots to use the prop brake. I know about this because I was a pilot for Continental Express and was present at the scene of the accident. | |
