Awesome viewing angle, so many shots of SXM are from the beach - nothing wrong with that - but this is a nice dramatic difference.
Here's a shot in the dark, anyone know where abouts on the island this was taken? I will be in St Maarten in March 09 and would like to find this spot on the hill!!!

How long is this runway? I'm amazed at how a 747 with the fuel needed to make it to Europe, can take off from such a short runway! Amazing!

A visitor from Austria posted Mon February 6, 2006:
It always amazes me how those big airplanes can get airborne on this relatively short runway. very beautiful shot!

This is an example of the huge power of the 747. Lets see the A380 do that!

A visitor from Canada posted Fri January 6, 2006:
Amazing photo! Great angle. I really like this shot, because it shows how short SXM's runway is. The 743 sure has it's flaps down quite far.

A visitor from Germany posted Thu January 5, 2006:
The shadow of the 747 shows how high it already is. Considering the very short runway of SXM and the fact that it's gonna fly nonstop to Paris and therefore being heavily loaded with fuel, the performance is remarkable. There is a similar picture of a A340 though.
