This brings back memories, while working at ohare for delta on the ramp at the time, it could have been both a day and flight worked. in regard to aircraft type, it is a dc8-61. 871 refers to the ship number that delta assigned for internal use. all delta aircraft carry a 3 digit number on the nose wheel doors and on the tail.

A visitor from United States posted Wed February 29, 2012:
In regards to visitor from the Netherlands 871 is aircraft registration Delta used for internal purposes, all Delta aircraft use a company 3 digit numbering system to indentify individual planes. At the time of of the DC8 they 800 series numbers. From a retired Delta employee

I was working for Delta at Ohare, on the ramp, at around the time this photo was taken. It could have been very well a particular flight assigned to my gate. It really brings back memories over of 30 years ago. Great action action shot!

When Delta flew real planes!

Great atmosphere. It's a DC-8-61, not a -71, it still has the JT-3D's.
