This has to be one of the best photos to make its way to A.net. Exposure is fabulous, and the autumn yellow tree on that dark blue night sky is ... WOW!
And there is that bit of aviation, to make it an aviation freak's best picture in quite some time :)

The special feeling from this picture is peace. Against the busy and roral activities actions which are in the real background , the very quiet and peacfull light transfer from earth to the stars is cool and lovely.

I really love the idea of long exposure shot, it reveals the A/C trajectory, smooth the clouds, strange light on the trees... Perhaps it could be worth to try a square format, cutting the road and a small piece of the sky.
Good work anyway !
Anonymous
Why don't you cut the trees ???
I particularly like the points coming from lights at the end of each wing.

Good job

From Hong Kong: Look at this picture and cannot say anything. Really EXCELLENT ... EXCELLENT ... EXCELLENT.
How can a picture like this. Best combination in colour, light, design and explosure. But something strange is a picture that we vote for doesn't have any plane on it. But there is still a feeling of plane there with a very very warm and peaceful feeling. FANTASTIC...unable to describe my feeling anymore. Thanks Tim you take a picture which touch to the profound of my heart.

It could be a painting but it isn't. It could be a combination of pictures but it's not. It could be a weird effect but ultimately it is a real shot!!! I'll have to agree with the fellow from the United Arab Emirates and Cry Out Loud "Hats Off to the Man Behind the Picture"

Amazing! DCA is one of the best airports in the country, but being open to only domestic US traffic you only see relatively small jets here. Can you imagine this same picture with a 744? Whew! Awesome picture nonetheless, these trees look like something out of a movie!

I like this picture because of the surreal quality. The light on the trees makes it look like the shot was taken during mid-day but you can see stars and the lights at the airport suggest night. It fools you. I like it.

I give the photo 5 stars for composition alone; the brilliance of the trees on the right are in stunning contrast with darkness at the horizon and the dark curb and shadow in the foreground which, together, provide a wonderful depth; the two- tone sky focuses my attention to the splendor of the trees; and lastly, there are those mysterious bright lines in the sky with no airliner in sight. i looked at this photograph for a long time and became completely captured by it.
