A visitor from Australia posted Sat October 3, 2009:I was an EWA fantasy flier for many years,A child who loved aircraft, winning competitions, jump seat flights,I even got to do the cabin briefing a few times. I wrote a jingle for the airline and although I also did mystery flights with another airline I notched up thousands of hours with this fantastic airline. i recenly found my 40th anniversary badge and pile of airline tickets, I used to watch thes F27s which to this day are still my favourite airline,( I even had a tour of the Fokker factory and museum in Amsterdam just wish I could find one!!! Notice the airport in those days, there was an outside deck I used to smell the fuel, feel the thud of the cabin door closing, feel the breeze as each propellor started, I could hear the stairs being wheeled away and I would draw the aircraft (I was a kid when I started) I also used to know by first name all the airport staff, and in fact if I got an early flight I would often make it back to take another flight on the same day. Notice the lack of terminals both domestic and international! These were the days when the control tower was out near runway one six original!! Ah yes this brings back such huge happy memories that it has made my entire weekend. I went on to learn how to fly, thanks to pilots like Mike Rigg et al. This brought me in touch with the Australian Women Pilots Association and a friendship with many great women pilots including Nancy Bird Walton.T think east west airlines can take some of the credit for my flying fun. I remember trying to capture so much in my memories. the white plastic coffee cups, the dody gust lock lever, the fantasic crew, the fun turbulence on long final into sydney, which in those days was devoid of all the high rises we see now on 16 L and RT. So many times I have wished I could go back in time for just a day, I would have chosen a day with my dad out at the airport, and me taking a fantasy flight. well thanks to this photo you have given me the next best thing and I do thank you for that. Kind regards Sharon McAnulty | |
