After an absence of over 23 years, a new Eastern Air Lines will shortly start operations. A first B.737-800 has been painted into Eastern colours at Shannon. Previously serving with Kenya Airways as 5Y-KYB, it is due to become N276EA.

I worked as an A&P mechanic with Eastern in MIA from 1972-1989. I never imagined in my wildest dreams I would see this livery again.

And here I thought someone was doing a 'retro-jet' scheme on one of their fleet aircraft. Man, I must be so out of the loop because I had no idea that EA was mounting a comeback of any sort. Now, I am acting just like a 13 year old girl in high school that's losing her mind because whatever is the hottest boy band is coming to town. Weeeeeeeeeeeeee!!! Damn it, I am so shallow!

Where's the "Whisperjet" tag line on the engines?

I wish them well! I remember the days of 'ole when you could fly the 727's that were the workhorse going up and down the Eastern seaboard.

To the USA comment about why the 'Whisperjet' tag is missing on the engine, well, as far as I remember it was only the 727s that had that because all the engines were at the rear of the aircraft which made for a quieter cabin.

Sorry and I for to add that the DC9s also had the 'Whisperjet' on the rear section as well, again on the count that all the engine were at the rear of the aircraft which made the cabin much quieter than the DC-8, DC-10, L-1011, A300 and 757. The L-1011 did get the 'Whisperliner' title on the no 2 intake though.

Previously serving with Kenya Airways.. wow. Do rivers flow uphill now, too? I'm curious about the retrofitting that was undertaken to move this aircraft into service in the US.

Great except for the BLUE ENGINE.. stupid idea and ruined the classic look.

Great to see "the wings of man" flying the Eastern seaboard again.
I truly hope Eastern can make it successfully and be the only one to have successfully come back from the ashes.
