For those who have had enough for A380, I would like to show you another four engine flagship in the 50's. Flying faster, further, and carrying more cargo with more powerful engines under the pressurized cabin has been a normal evolution that we still follow today. Here is the true beauty departing gracefully from runway 32. Life is precious. Alive is wonderful. Deliver something to make people happy is brilliant. That is her true life is all about. Roaring sounds which I hope you could hear.

What makes this photo excellent is that it is a dc6.

I like this shot because of the setting against the snow covered mountains. The shadow gives an added depth to the photo and gives life to the aircraft

Fabulous background and great detail of the DC-6 combine to capture the romance of a great vintage airliner. I can almost hear those P&W'S snarling!

Nothing like one of these beauties on it's own, but throw in that scenery and you have a pure work of art.

Had more than enough A380. This is an awesome shot, taken on a clear, brisk day. It's great to see an old bird like this one, especially because it's clearly well maintained and clean.

Very nice shot, Jean! I judge she's departing northbound; as the Chugiach Mountains are in the background. When I lived in Anchorage; (1970-1973) the north/south runway was not adequate for larger aircraft... when we'd get the "big winds"; a lot of "commercials" had to land at Elmendorf; since the only active runway at ANC that supported them was East/West.
Was a real spectacle to see their attempts at a severe cross wind landing!
If you run across any photos of a JAL 747 that slid off the runway into the gully at Anchorage in 1971 (?) I saw her the night after it happened, while I was departing on Western Airlines to SEA (N720W formerly PNA)
Thanks again and hope to see more from "The Last Frontier"

This photo fully displays the graceful lines of this classic aircraft. The aircraft, lit by the low angle of the sun, stands out as the subject of the photo while set against the soft tones of the mountains and sky. Sufficient lighting from below provides a view of the undersides as well. The aircraft is spread across the centerline of the picture with the churning power of the two left engines catching one's eye at dead center. The viewer can all but hear and feel the beautiful thunder of the P&W R-2800s. Truly a super photo of this beautiful classic of the skies.

Yes I remember the roaring, rumbling sounds and the stunning looks of these beauties.
You could offer me any trip in one of these or in a 380, I would without hesitation choose the DC-6 or --7 or -4 or -3 for that matter.
Whish You a Peacful Christmas

This photo is exquiste! And definitely worthy of a higher than 5 stars rating, but since 5 stars is the limit, 5 star quality this photos defintely is! Such detail and clarity, and the aircraft looks spotless too, more so than some more modern airliners...
Would make a great background photo...

Boy, does this photo ever bring back memories! Back in the early 60's, about 90% of the airline traffic in and out of Greater Cincinnati Airport at Erlanger, Ky. consisted of this great airplane, mostly belonging to AA. Then, the big jets started coming; TWA had 4 B 707's a day, and Delta had maybe 2 or 3 CV 880's & 990's. I hauled 4 loads every night of av gas 100/130 octane to AA, 32,000 gal each night, and every drop went into one of these babies! ( and a couple of Martin 404's belonging to Piedmont )

Remember the Great Berlin Airlift? You're looking at the airplane that made aviation history, supplying millions of Berliners with everything needed to keep them from starving; all their food, all their clothing, medicine, and even all their COAL ! There was a DC-6 landing and taking off every 20 minutes, 24hrs a day, 7 days a week, for over a year!
All by this GREAT AIRPLANE!!!!! I guarantee you, if anyone living in Berlin after WW 2 ended, sees this picture, they will definitely have tears in their eyes.
Thank you Jean, for sharing it!
