Remark Photographer
N593FE (cn 48551/527) That "contraption" on the nose is the Kollsman EVS (Enhanced Vision System) sensor which is currently being installed on Fedex's fleet, including the MD-11s, MD-10s, A300s, and A310s. The EVS allows pilots to see a live, clear image of ground/terrain features during periods of low visbility. The image is projected onto a HUD or HDD, allowing for lower landing minimums and an overall safer operation.
