Smoke 'em if you got 'em!

Well, maybe the pilot is an ex-navy pilot:

Navy carrier pilots to Air Force pilots: Flaring is like squatting to pee.
Anonymous

That pilot must be a former Naval Aviator by slamming the plane onto the flight deck of an aircraft carrier.

The master of ceremonies would say: "Welcome to CDG AirShow! Now you can see this MD11 performing some acrobatic smoke demonstration!"

Looking at this picture and the one taken just before http://www.airliners.net/open.file/1045397/M/ one might wonder (just might) if someone wasn't resting a little on the brakes at the time of touch down. Capt to F/O "hey, ya wanna see a smoky landing?". :p

Mind you to someone out there who knows nothing of about aircraft, you could quote this as the guys were just trying to "get out of Dodge" in a hurry as in "laying rubber" which we all know is impossible on take off unless you lock up the brakes and why you would do that is beyond me. :)

Right time, great lighting, excellent shot!

MD-11 and DC-10s are the hardest landing planes I have ever seen !!!

Sorry to say this, but as a pilot, this is a FULL NORMAL landing...Great Pic, however:-)))

I think that the MD-11's and DC-10's make the hardest landings because they're heavier in the tail because of the engine on the tail. It tends to make the back of the aircraft come down hard and that is also why the there is a center main gear.

Hi Olivier!

Congratulations to this one!!! :D That's perfect captured during the plane's arrival. I've also hardly seen such a landing with so much smoke.

Best regards (...ton ami d'Autriche);)

Besides the great picture that this one is, I dont think the Cap or the F/O might have been resting on the brakes.. the tires would have blown quite fast..

What a beatiful shot. Sometimes it look really difficult too land an airplane, for us who never try it. We must belive that those who fly, know what they are doing. When I look at this picture it look for mee as an accident.
I'm from Denmark.

Looks like he is standing on the brakes during touchdown. Happened to me once when I was flying a C172 in my early days. Not good!!

Seems that the next plane to land on (or takeoff) probably had to wait for the smoke dissipate ;-)) .. very nice smoky shot, 5*

The pilots forgot to level off before landing? The nose seems a bit too high.

It is difficult to control because it has a very heavy ass.

The reason why it's designed a three-holer is that one day the main design engineer said to his fellow workers, "hey, wanna see some smokes?"

Then, they put an extra engine and some extra rubbers.
