Always envied the guys that manage to photograph such landings, especially on heavies like this one! If you're at CDG, it's a Saturday, then expect many of these beasts to arrive late afternoon/early evening, into the European FedEx centre.

Good shot! You must be proud :)
Waiting for comments such as "Another near-crash landing for the MD-11"...

Not to be funny, but after the accident at Narita I'm worried when ever I see MD11s make hard landings.

Cool shot of a nice plane. A pity the passenger version never made it big because of range & fuel burn issues. But its a very successful freighter! @ the visitor from the UK...this is not a "hard landing"...its more likely a normal "firm" touchdown into a crosswind which is coming from the left side in this photograph (from our viewpoint).

Gents,
There's nothing wrong with that landing. A proper crosswind landing in the MD11 is the sideslip/ wing-low method.

"Smoke 'em if you got 'em!" To the UK vistor commenting on the demise of the MD-11 for PAX use... it was the 'wiring' that did it in. After the Swissair MD-11 fire and the rewiring needed to avoid such problems again in PAX use most airlines deemed the cost far too much and so moved to newer A/C with lower burn and better range as a bonus.

Excellent action shot. Great work by Spencer and the pilot flying. Anyone who can tell rate of descent from tire smoke in a photo is doing well. All looks perfectly normal to me.

To our colleagues below.

Thank you for correcting the first UK comment about a hard landing. like said just a nice crosswind landing. It seems like some have never seen it before :).

Secondly to our Canadian friend, the wiring had nothing to do with the slow sales of the MD-11. It was initially the not performing to promised specs and then pretty soon after the general acceptance of ETOPS.

KL and also AY got such great lease deals that for them it was still worth it, but for many it was not.

Makes me wonder if the pilots (since no there's no pax) say stuff like "Ten bucks I land with just my knees holding the stick"
