This is almost a classic! The gold old "regular" Finnair B757-200 on short final for rwy 05 at my home island. Being an amateur (almost just curious) spotter I must say these guys from finnair make the better approaches and touchdowns I usually see in Madeira, from all the charters and regular airlines that come here, in any weather conditions! It´s not the first picture taken from the jump seat of a finnair B757-200 on final for rwy 05 that I see here on A.net though. Some taken during the baseleg for this same rwy are also amazing, if not even more! Nice job guys!

Nice clean photo from the observers seat, the third best seat on the ride

He looks a little low on his approach, hope he doesn't stall out with his flaps and low altitude!

Looks like the capt. is almost right on glide slope, why is the FD telling him to climb and bank to the left!?

I am not a big fan of cockpit shots but this is incredible. Great exposure. Add to that, it's always great when you can beat out the extremely rare A-380 side on shot for top of the last 24 hours these days. Great job Peter.

Well, nothing like the "Home Grown" Aviators that perform those approaches and landings everyday, several times a day!!!
When the runway was only half the length, then it would be interesting to see how things would be!! :-)

Sweet shot! Thats definetly an amzing sight.

About the GS, I think Madeira's ILS works like the one Kai Tak used to have. It was aligned to the hill, and you had to bank right after capturing it to align with the runway.

Just to clarify - there is no ILS at Madeira. Just check Jepps or AIP charts - this approach is absolutely amazing, with 180 degrees turn to join 1 mile final! I love it, I wish I could fly there some day...

Madeira (LPMA) has no ILS! Approaches to both rwys are VOR/DME through FUN VOR and then visual. The approach to rwy 05 is obviously the most difficult due to the complicated baseleg, but planes coming from the Canaries usually go directly to the baseleg of rwy 05 or 23 and forget the VOR/DME... saving some fuel..hehe ;-)

Very nice shot...! I flew in there a few weeks ago, also on a 757 as a First Officer. I feels like being there again. In real though when we turned final, which is around 600-700ft the runway looked a lot closed than it does here. (probably because of the zoom effect) The take-off is also very spectacular with a right turn just seconds after lift-off. Can`t wait to have a go myself as this place is captain`s only in our company.

Nice to see a focused cockpit shot with the r/w also inview more than mile out. also good to see the senior captain with a hands on landing instead of letting the first officer do all the work.
