The Fokker D.VII was regarded as the best German fighter of the war. The Red Baron had flight tested the D.VII but had not flown it in combat. Herman Goering, was one of the first pilots to fly the DVII in combat. (Yes, the same Herman Goering who would become the Commander-in-chief of the Luftwaffe in WWII.
