Very rare photo of an almost forgotten airline. Perhaps first commercial airline at Islip. Delivered as Series 2A and converted to 5BA in 1955.

Get ready...My dad was the founder of Gateway Airlines. When I was 11 years old I flew in this airplane many times. The airline was in fact the first commercial carrier at Islip ( MacArthur Airport ). The airline also operated a four engine Dehavilland Heron. Flights were to Boston, Washington DC, and Newark airport. Because of the rural composition of the area at that time, and the associated relatively small population, the airline only operated for a very short time before closing down.
As an aside, when I grew up, I received flight training at Islip, and I'm a general aviation pilot. I believe N1578V still exists somewhere in Florida. Thanks so much for posting this photo!
