Dude, awsome photo! Even though the Germans would soon unknowingly suffer a huge defeat, its pictures like this that tell us that they were defiantly determined to fight for something they believed in.

Note the leading-edge fixed slats. A very innovative technical inclusion; increases stability at slower airspeed.

What a fascinating bit of history. I had no idea they had color film (for still photography) in widespread use in the 1940s.
