Even though a high wing, underslung turboprop engines, chunky tires and an aft loading ramp are a nowadays common configuration for medium tactical transporters, this profile was still a novel sight when the C-160 entered service in the mid-60s (having previously only been seen on the C-130). 50+75 of the Lufttransportgeschwader 61 is one of the last first-generation Transalls, built in 1971. On this day, it had popped into Split as support for an international exercise taking place in the area.
