Kai Tak Airport might be long gone, but Honolulu Airport has its version of the famous Kai Tak IGS runway 13 approach. During "Kona Wind" (southerly) operations at HNL, all arriving airliners are defaulted to the LDA/DME runway 26L, a non-precision approach with the localizer offset by 45° from runways 26L and 26R. Taking you past Diamond Head, Waikiki Beach and downtown Honolulu before the final turn toward the runway, this approach is always a thrill to both the pilots and passengers. N489HA is pictured making the final turn on the circle-to-land segment for runway 26R, after completing the LDA/DME 26L approach.
