A visitor from Portugal posted Fri March 17, 2006:Fantastic overview. I saw this photos several times before going to the Maldives and had my chance to do a similar one as the Capt of the Twin Otter I was in flew over this airport, but I wasn't so lucky and had a overcasted day with little light. But you did very good and a great photo. Congratulations. Miguel Cláudio from Lisboa
A visitor from Philippines posted Mon September 19, 2005:This photo captures the unique nature of the Male' Intl. Airport. Being on an island by itself, infact in the beginnin it was 2 seperate islands located in the lagoon but in order to build an adequate runway the two islands were joined and expanded through land reclaimation. It is currently linked by a causeway to another island being reclaimed in the same lagoon as seen near the upper right corner of the photo. The lagoon area around the airport is to be reclaimed to expand the airport in the future. The capital island is located just a few minutes boat ride away.
