Too low!!!! I was shooting a/c on Rwy 20 when I realised that this 320 was approaching way too low and turned the camera to capture it. Fortunately the truck driver hit the brakes before passing below! As you can see, you can get really close to the action here. (As of mid-June 2001 this road section has been closed and deviated) Aircraft was re-registred EC-HUL in July 2001. See a normal approach

Fantastic shot Marlo, got me on this one, I was sat just above the N of the reg on the right hand side! It was indeed a very bumpy approach and an equally rough landing.

And very dangerous =)

You try to get a shot like that.

Excellent shot, although it doesn't look like the plane would've hit the truck anyway. There's enough clearance there!

Going out spotting and having one go this close must have been a real buzz. Keep taking pictures cause the next one might be the one in a million we are all trying to get.

To the comment above:

Is not the fact that the truck would have hit the plane, but if it was underneath the track of the a/c that close the engines would have blasted the truck over on its side.

A perfect compostion considering the time that he would've got. Frankly it gives me the goose bumps! Good for the truck driver that the brakes held!!
Anonymous

THe truck passed the plane anyway so there's no point for him to hit the brakes.
Anonymous

No right, the truck has definitively not passed under the aircraft. Just make a size comparison to see the truck is several meters in front of the aircraft. The A320 is abeam the white car standing on the roads shoulder. Marlo

They should have posted a sign: !>^!
In other words: beware of airplanes passing too low over your vehicles!! (It was the best I could do with my keyboard!)

Your pilot was dangerously low, and there's nothing to be proud of.
Somehow by a weird illusion the truck seems to have passed the plane, but comparing the height of the car to the size of the door on the plane makes me believe that the plane is well behind the truck.

This photo is really cool, at first I couldn't believe this was an actual photograph, since the A320 is flying too low and it seems that it will crash with the truck.

Very dangerous! A few inches more and the main gear could hit the truck, and that Airbus should end like one of the 747s in the Tenerife Disaster. T.B.

I can believe this as I have flown IB domestic flights before. Makes me really scared to fly them the next time, but nonetheless a fantastic photo.

Lower than at St.Maarten! The pilot must think they have a 3,000 foot runway!

If the plane was any lower and the truck kept going, there could have been a disaster. Good job getting the photo.

The fact that tragedy was near this giant landing routine makes this picture really important.

It's a good shot but, please, consider perspective;if really under the aircraft, the truck would be a little
smaller in the picture

Perspective! The truck is well past the plane, compare the size of the truck to that of the car. The truck driver would be on the brakes if the plane was ahead of him.

So close and yet so far! It's just awesome to see a plane weighing several tons literally hanging (albeit for only seconds) over a roadway. A totally surreal photograph.
Anonymous

That's low. Maybe the pilot is confused and thinks he's landing at SXM :-D
Anonymous

Great pic of a low approach, but pilot is not to blame. Who, in their right mind, planned this road in the first place? Secondly, why trucks were not banned from using it? As I pilot, I do not expect a huge container truck to get in the way while I am trying to get this heavy bird safely to ground. Pilots 1, Truck Driver 0, City Planner -10.

Steps really hard on the brakes.

Really impressive! Maybe the truck driver no longer uses that road! But.. that signal of "Men at work", seems to be put as a distractor. Uhmm, the A320 is very close to the fence, so, the runway could be too short. Very good photograph!

This road have been cabcled, and now the rafic and the spotters have to see the action from a new road, less "dangerous". But still a very nice spotting spot.

It's unusualy moment.
Anonymous

This is a normal landing, firstly the truck is much closer than the A320, look at the height of the truch in relation to the aircraft, i'm telling you that aircraft is a considerable distance further down the road. It's also not breaking suddenly, the car behind is, probably because he is driving too close to the truck. I see nothing abnormal with this landing.
Anonymous

This sure was close, the scale of the cargo truck and the door of the aircraft is pretty much 1:1, if you ever been inside or walked next to a trailer, you'd know, awesome shot! totally priceless

Exellent picture. wow that truck really got a hard time imagine what could have happened. Im proud of providing this kind of pictures thanks.

It shows a lot of detail on the aircraft. The A320 is very impressive but I've never seen it fly so low
Anonymous

Very unusual. Viewer can compare size of plane to relative objects. Great timing and camera settings.

The plane is ahead of the truck. The truck is almoust under the wingtip. I believe the truck has stopped to avoid any threath of being hit by the a320's landing gear. Think the truck as an catering vehicle, compare it to the planes door. In the picture the truck is too big compared to the front door so there must be an gap between. Great shot anyway, possibly once in a life time chance! =)

Not to spoil the fun, but I think the plane is waaaaay ahead of the truck. Totally agree with the finnish poster.

Amazing proportions between the truck and airplane it makes the truck look so small even though it is a relatively large object. 5 stars!
Anonymous

If the truck didn't stop. the pilot could say he did a touch and go on a truck. as long as he didn't crash.

Smartphones and camera phones didn't exist in 2001! :) The latter became available in 2002 but their photo resolution and quality were pretty poor, certainly not as good as this picture.
