Actually, this aircraft was designed to compete for a new Shturmovik aircraft, in the same competition where the Su-25 Frogfoot won.

A competitor to Su-25 that even had certain performance advantages over the latter but was a couple of years too late to be eventually approved for serial production. The 'philosophy' implemented by its designers was pretty much that of Il-2/Il-10.

I was thinking the same thing... an IL-2 for the early jet age. I like the sun peering through the forest.

Wow. looks like a late 40's/early 50's ground attack aircraft. certainly a valid replacement for the Sturmovik!
