100 % nice successful shot!
While I was there the Insel pilots enjoyed messing with the tourists on the beach, taunting them to come up to the fence and making low approaches like this. No where else like it in the world!
To answer your question, yes, in about 2001 a drunk person *did* throw something at a landing jet...he was tossed in jail for a few days while his family had to scramble for his release.
That looks (too?) low...accident wating to happen
From the MD's pitch angle, it seems to me that he has flared up way too early. On most pictures taken from this location, aircraft are either parallel to the ground or just beginning to flare up. Wouldn't call this a safe approach, nor a good flare-up.
Insane!! what if somebody down the beach ever tries to throw a beachball into the engines? 5*
Ultra low he is just about to flare for the landing light is perfect the colours of the aircraft show up brilliantly and only one person managed to get their head into the bottom of the frame.
OMFG...Thats really low. Didn't he hit the fence??
Great shot...however, this is stupid. One day, soon, there will be a horrific accident there and that beach and road will be off limits for half a mile. I once had a ramp tour and the ops manager told me of the AF 747 which came in too low and ripped up the fence, tangling it in the landing gear, simply because of a stunt attempt. Flight crews should be smarter than this.
Scraping the sand:) | |
Been to Maho, loved it. But I fear that pics like this will one day shut it down for good.
Timo, nice shot. You caught the spirit of SXM at exactly the right moment.
Congrats for this shot!
I was actually under this exact fly-in. I could have stood up and touched the landing gear on this bird. This beach should be on everyone's list of places to visit.
Of the thousands of SXM pictures that I have seen, this has to be the best action shot ever. Excellent capture of people scrambling away. (i'd like to know if the pilot was reprimanded in some way.)
WOW!!!!! | |
There is a reason written in blood as to why you are not supposed to do that in a turbojet aircraft. Made even more stupid by the very slow spool times of the JT8D-217's on the Mad Dog. The one to two seconds it takes to add power is an eternity that close to the ground. Looks like the photographer was the only one smart enough to get out of the way!
Great Photo! But It seems it extremely too low. As One continues this. One day we'll have Some Safety issue here.
Great photo...very spectacular but those pilots had better hope that their Chief Pilot doesn't see it because it could and should have serious repercussions for them.
Never low enough... it's not low enough until the fence is clipped! :P
Nice low one buddy!!! | |
That is absolutely one of the lowest approaches I have ever seen at St.Maarten (been there twice), just freakin' scary.
Great photo. When I was at SXM last year, the only time in my life that I truly wondered "Is this how I am going to go?" was when an Insel Air jet did an approach just like this. It was terrifying! Notice all the people in this shot who are running away from the plane! Not a typical SXM reaction!
Insel Air will kill someone one day. Nice photo though.
Man that is low!!! If you timed your jump right, you could just about touch the landing gear!!!
Cool pic. Tail of the plane almost scraping the surf at the beach!!
This will end at some point
Wow... that's ridiculous. At least the people who wet themselves could just run down into the water.
WOW! That is some serious ducking there. Numerous spectators are seen running away to save their lives as it seems.
Every ultra low pass I see here is Insel Air, one of these days these guys are going to try and show off and cause a serious accident and we'll never be allowed on Maho beach again(though i've yet to go)....The normal approaches are low enough but these guys in my opinion take it too far at times. Great photo though!! still gets 5* from me!
That is just sick, Timo. We have been P'wned! Well done... Manny.
This is way tooooo low!!
