Newbie question : are those boosters I see? Were they installed on most 707s or were they added afterwards for shorter runways?

Nice catch! The leveling mechanism on the landing gear as such is not related to the aircraft's hydraulics system, rather it appears to be a blown centering cylinder or snubber on the left MLG itself. Good capture. Jaysen - Wichita, KS

Looks like a hydraulics problem, all gear doors are down. No surprise considering the age and maintenance support of this bird. Nice pic though
