A visitor from India posted Mon January 16, 2012:Ok. I have tried to resist replying to the immediately previous comment below but I just cannot resist anymore. The argument is flawed because air refuelers are basically "Force Multipliers" . That means that they are "dedicated" in their role and more importantly are never used part - time. I tried finding air forces that do this, and no major top 10 air force actually performs dual use such as this photo in a manner depicted here. Also, one more thing, if you zoom into the photo in the wing section, you will find that it is indeed an add-on, a "patch work" . There is a pipe you can clearly see starting from the leading edge of the wing [obviously from the tank] with the fuel line [ending with the receptacle] toward the F 14. I would understand that under the present scenario, Iran finds itself necessary to have this "flexiblity". With regards to the penultimate comment, why would a 707 Tanker have windows right away from Factory Roll out ???
A visitor from - posted Mon December 12, 2011:With regard to the comment on the windows on the aircraft it is a simple use of an aircraft in different roles to maintain greater flexibility. Not the desperation your comment implies, many nations do it so they essentially have two aircraft in one.
A visitor from - posted Mon December 12, 2011:The 707 tankers were bought by The Late Shah of Iran, King Mohammad Reza Shah Pahlavi. They had windows from the very first day right after factory roll out.
A visitor from India posted Mon December 12, 2011:This is a nice shot no doubt. The F14A tomcats getting refueled et al... However, I have observed something very shocking that none of the people commenting here have mentioned... Observe the Refueler.. it has windows!! It actually has windows, which means that this is a "passenger" aircraft retrofitted for air-refueling!! My gosh! The lengths to which the Iranians have gone to attain certain capabilities!! :D
