To say I am thrilled to visit the B747SP cockpit inflight in 2012 is an understatement. The captain did the unthinkable, he pushed the plane to the fastest speed possible, Mach 0.884 during my cockpit visit to show me what B747SP can do. (mind you we were against the wind too). We were allowed to stay inside the cockpit for landing and all the way to disembark. I will never forget the kindness of people at Iran Air! This photo is dedicated to them! [Nikon D300]

Well against the wind is easier to reach such IAS, no? Nevertheless it is fantastic shot of the awesome classic and rare bird! Well done Mr. Chui, thanks for another interesting photo.

This shot is really nice. But man i am not as courageous as you are, as i would not dare to get in a 34 years old 747 maintained with god knows what... You' re lucky mate. I envy you.

Wonderful picture! FYSA, Indicated Mach has nothing to do with the winds. It is simply measuring the speed of the aircraft through the air, so you would have seen the same indicated Mach with a tail wind. However, the ground speed would be slower with the head wind. Cheers

The speed doesn´t matter to me. I like the pictures you took during this flight and the stories told to each one of them. Great. Thanks.
