The Japan Self Defense Air Force begun using Texans in 1955. They were employed for over ten years in a pilot training role. In the mid-1960s they were transferred to search-and-rescue duties. By 1969 the JASDF had retired the last of these classic big-engined props. Preserved at the Tokorozawa Aviation Museum.
