A visitor from Netherlands posted Tue October 21, 2008:To all the people wondering where the winglet is... the answer is in the designation of the type 446 >D<. Plz check the comments below; a person from Luxembourg has explained it all.
A visitor from Netherlands posted Tue September 16, 2008:Lol first i thought where is the winglet? But then i realised this is a domestic and they cant benefit from the fuel saving abilities on their short runs, so they save themselves the cost of havin them installed. interesting tho, i didnt know that this type doesnt have the extended wingspan of the "normal" -400...

A visitor from United States posted Sun August 20, 2006:This is a very beutifal sight
A visitor from Australia posted Fri August 18, 2006:First 400D's landing gears are capable for more frequent landings. Secondly thrustrate is slightly different from normal 400s. And I think is model exists only in Japan.
A visitor from United States posted Thu July 6, 2006:Beautiful picture. I like the contrast of the wing against the background. Also, good job capturing the mountain breaking through the clouds, and the lack of winglets on the 744D
A visitor from Luxembourg posted Fri May 12, 2006:-400D's have no winglets indeed and as D stands for domestic they're not intended to fly long distance routes but Domestic ones. The British vistor's comment is true, the extra wingspan and extra tank from the -400 would make the aircraft heavier whereas the D version is meant to carry as much pax as possible on short routes with high pax density. Nice pic of Mt. Fuji by the way :-) Brgds / GP
A visitor from United States posted Fri May 12, 2006:My favorite shots of all time. The wing/engine shots of 747's. I first saw almost similar scene when I got on a KLM-747 at 9 years of age. Pretty scary sitting next to engine #-3.
A visitor from United Kingdom posted Mon April 24, 2006:Love the contrast and reflections in cowling too-(Japanese domestic 400D's lack the extra wingspan, winglets and tail fuel tank of standard 400's, IIRC)

A visitor from Germany posted Thu March 16, 2006:Have a look in the seach engine for 446D-type a/c. They all don't have winglets. This seems to be a special 'feature' on JAL's 747-400.
A visitor from United Kingdom posted Wed March 15, 2006:This JAL 744 is a regional airliner and does not need winglets as it only covers short hauls. Winglets were removed from some 400 series by Boeing for short flights.
