Wow, I've never seen something like that before. While the BA B744 is on finals for runway 34L, the Jetstar A320 just departed on runway 16L in the opposite direction. ATC kept this runway configuration for almost one hour.

Interesting shot! Was it a dead calm? There's no deflection of the control surfaces to suggest a crosswind at all. Good composition.

Good capture of SODROPS (simultaneous opposite direction runway operations). It's one of those things that lets you capture some very different images like this.

This is called SODPROPS (Simultaneous opposite direction parallel runway operations) as far as I know being used at Sydney and Brisbane. It can only be done on days that the wind is calm enough to allow operations from either direction. The main reason I think is that this method allows all operations to be conducted to one side of an airport, for example at Brisbane over Moreton Bay. and not over noise sensitive areas.

Well, it's a spectacular photo; but I agree with Rick Paige. As an Air Traffic Controller, I think this this is a hazardous operation, and puts lives at risk. There's just no room for error.

When this configuration is in use, They use 16L for takeoffs, 25 for heavier takeoffs, and 34L for landings.

This can't happen in Brisbane because their parallel runway isn't due to be built until 2018. Also, Brisbane Airport Corporation lease significantly greater land around the runway and noise is less of an issue than at Sydney. That said; amazing shot, Jan! It would've been very difficult to line up.
