Looks like they want to give a 'high-five' ;)
Visitor from Australia; 5 stars for your excellent explanation of SPDPROPS ! It added immensely to this incredible image, (IMHO) And Seth....thanks for being one fantastic photographer of airplanes!
Three things..... 1. I never heard "SODPROPS; 2. Never saw "SODPROPS" 3. I LOVE "SODPROPS"! SODPROPS makee velly goood picher !
You have got to love SODROPS!! John
Just a plane´s dance :) | |
That is cool!!!! | |
"Mornin', Frank." "Mornin', Earl."
Excellent | |
The best pilot | |
Brilliant shot! The relative distance between the two aircraft makes the A380 appear roughly the same size as the A320.
According to airfield charts, the centrelines of 34L and 16L are around 1000m apart and the JQ A320 will have climbed well above the level of the 380 by the time they pass so there will be no wake turbulence issues. Using a long lens also makes the aircraft appear closer than they actually are.
Quote: "Isn't there's a chance for the A320 to fly headon into A380's wake?" Very little chance of that - first, the two paths are offset, and second, the A320 will have climbed above the level at which the A380's wake turbulence would be found by the time the two aircraft are abeam each other.
A unique photo. However, I'd like to ask Seth how were that possible: wind in two different directions? or absolutely "no wind" at all?
Excellent pic... | |
Baby Give me a HUG. | |
This operation is called SODPROPS (Simulataneous Opposite Direction Parallel Runway Operations). As the A380 is landing on 34L over Botany Bay, and the A320 is taking off from 16L over Botany Bay, noise heard by locals will be minimised. SODPROPS is great for noise abatement. It allows for YSSY to maximise the number of flights over Botany Bay. It is conducted in zero-wind conditions. Good shot!
Woow ;) | |
Great picture and good timing!
Right place - right time
5 stars - instant classic!
Nice one! Very well framed. Was it a zero-wind day? Does Sydney often have anti-parallel operations?
Superb! | |
Isn't there's a chance for the A320 to fly headon into A380's wake?
Very nice shot. Congrats. Note the letter "l" : is missing ;)
No its not... its very fine print. Great shot Seth!
The A380 appears to be landing while the A320 is taking off but they have opposite headings. How is this possible? A little more info on this photo would be appreciated.
Visitor from Switzerland, if you actually zoomed in and looked closer you'd notice that there are two "l"'s there. Some people really don't think before commenting do they. Sheesh.
Nope. There are 2 L's on the plane. They're squished together so you can barely see them from this angle.
Wow ! | |
I see All not Al. | |
What a catch! | |
Actually weird that the operating directions of the two runways is different..
Cool shot, but did you switch your focus from the A320 to the A380 after this? I hope so! lol
One "l" is missing in "All day..."
