KL1002 from Londen Heathrow landed in the rain and skidded off runway 18R. Usually 737's leave the runway via V3, this happened at V4 (at the end of the runway) and ended in the nearby grass. All people left via the left back door and were brought to the terminal with 5 busses, cargo was unloaded quickly. They put cars in front of the nosegear to protect it from sight. Note that the APU is running.

Probably the first incident involving a 737-900.

Nice shot, but I can't understand where or how can you see that the APU is still running ?

At the time I worked for KLM and remember this well, very unfortunate.

Cannot see the APU running either, but must believe the photographer for that.

Do not really understand the remark: "They put cars in front of the nosegear to protect it from any sight". The ground handling is just there to get the bagage and the maintenance to inspect the gear. Seem like you are seeing much more into this then there is :).
