Aviation Photo #1527954 Lockheed L-749 Constellation - KLM - Royal Dutch Airlines (Aviodrome)

4 Wright R-3350’s at 45 inch manifold pressure producing a combined total of 10.000bhp kicks up the dust when our Connie does her first full blast taxi run in 5 years. After many years of drawbacks everything is sorted both technical as well as financial and all of us knew for sure that this year it was finally going to happen, the most beautiful aircraft ever created was going to fly ones again. NOT, last week we received a blunt NO from the board.

Stunning, absolutely stunning. Perverse that she does not fly after all those years of hard work and the donation of those engines from Korea. Like the Vulcan in the UK, this aircraft needs to be seen in the air and enjoyed. Mick

Hey Willem, very glad to see that beauty in action. Well done from you guys at the Aviodrome. Why would KLM keep it from flying? Hope you get everything sorted out! You got my vote and I hope to see it flying sometime soon. -Thierry

Hopefully KLM will change their mind. it would be a crime if the Connie was not to take to the air after so many donations and so many years of hard work by the Aviodrome volunteers. KLM - sell a 777 and use this aircraft instead!

This is one of the best and most exquisite photos of a classic airliner I've seen on a.net in awhile. If it were possible, I'd give it 100+ stars!

Five stars for the shot, a thousand more for the achievement of such a job. Dont understand the KLM attitude, hope the situation will get cleared up very soon.

A fantastic shot of a fine aircraft - you can almost hear her roaring down the runway just by watching this picture! Very nice composition without any distractions in the background...
I hope she will fly soon and KLM will reconsider, because it's a shame that such a beauty doesn't take to the skies..!

I've been to Lelystad for the first time last weekend and I saw this beauty. I can't believe that she lost support from KLM and govmt. Shame.

This photo truly does justice to the most majestic looking AC KLM (or any airline) ever flew. I join the others in amazement that the airline won't back such a beautiful remembrance of their golden era.

This beautiful Connie could be brand new. The restoration looks superb. Next to the Concorde, the Connie is my favourite aircraft. I have many fond childhood memories of Qantas' connies thundering out of Perth Airport in the wee small hours and rattling all the plates in my Mother's dresser. Don't take No for an answer. This beautiful Connie was restored to fly.

Great picture, well captured too. Almost criminal this bird isn't allowed to do where it's made for: fly.
Just wondering, is the KLM board saying no or the board of the Aviodome ?

From a dutch viewer :
This picture show's that our dutch conny is in good shape !!
One of the final test runs without problems !!
It's a bloody shame that the big Dutch sponsors don't spend no more mony to make this beauty FLY again.
Look at the pictures ,she is ready for it !!
She had already skipped importand airshows in Holland and it's a shame she had to stay at "home" in Lelystad only about mony......
So sad..
Please sponsors ..Please let her fly !!
Thank you.

Superb photo of a marvellously restored veteran - A sharp and clear image of the raging bull, with the countryside in the background blurring into an inspiring mist...
Where there is a will there is a way, and if you insist long enough, it will fly. Just listen well to what the safety guys say, these particular Wrights were considered somewhat unreliable, obliging you to very few engine hours between costly overhauls.
Keep up the good work!
Dan

Umm, no, it's one of the prettiest airplanes ever built.

Stunning shot that fully captures the atmosphere and restrained power of this simply beautiful aircraft. If I knew this work of industrial art was going to be allowed to fly I would jump on a plane to Schipol faster than you could say "Flying Dutchman"!
