One of two LAF Mirage F1`s which landed in Malta unexpectedly after declaring an emergency. Soon after landing the pilots asked for political asylum.

Great job in capturing this historic event! How many people have photos of defecting aircraft while they land at their destination?!

History was taking place when this was photographed. Mr. Tonna has just shown once again he is among the best photographers on this site, and we should all be thanking him for sharing this with us first, rather than with the media.

What a historic moment you captured. Congratulations.
I wish the best for the people in Libya and all northern Africa.
Gotta love that landing gear!! It looks like an eagle just about to catch its prey.

Historic photo. I happened to be walking by the airport fence when the Mirages swept fast and low over the runway towards North then banked and landed.

Super photo of a very historic event! Thanks for sharing it with us. Even a tiny little bit of panning effect too. Regards, Chris P Denton.

Historical event, nice pic of a beautiful (it's a Mirage ...) fighter: You could have 10 stars !
Valorous pilots, but another good reason to not use these very old rockets: They could damage the aircraft ...

Did you know that this aircraft (# 502) and the #508 were recently refitted in France?. France!, who's leading the attack now...
