View from the cockpit on a clear spring night. Ahead of us the heart of our galaxy - the Milky Way! Below you can see a line of fires, which belong to the oil fields near Basrah, Iraq. 30 seconds exposure in FL 350.

Beautiful! Can't emphasise enough how magical this image is. Just when you thought you have seen it all, here comes another. BTW what are the streaks forward of the pillar on the left of the image?

Could be from the flight deck of the millenium falcon, simply great!

Good grief Felix, each shot is cooler than the preceding one! Absolutely amazing work. Great idea to use altitude to get rid of many of the obstacles facing less fortunate earthbound photographers for shots such as this. -Angad S

Don´t know if this picture is pure luck, or it's damn professional, one thing I know: it's a piece of art.

The combination of an almost static, endless universe and a dynamic, short-lived earth. What a shot!

I´m really really impressed by this shot. Were you flying southbound? If so, I believe I can recognize the Southern Cross among those stars. FZ

The capture of motion in the lower section as shown by the trails while the stillness and vibrance of the stars are exquisite. Possibly many images merged together, but the outcome is sheer brilliance.

George Lucas would shave his beard for a Star Wars-like scene such as this. This photo is one for the ages. Wow.

Tip to astronomy photographers: Either keep your camera perfectly still or move it at around Mach 0.78 and let Felix take the pic. Fantastic job!

Could be a screen shot from STARWARS....very nice for sure.
But once in a lifetime shot.....I think all factors are presented the next night, after the next night, after the next night.....so if you fly that route regulary, you probably can get similar shoots every time.

I see the MD-11 has replaced the Space Shuttle. I'm impressed that by using such a long exposure that no vibration or wobbly-ness was picked up.

It must be amazing to wonder what is going on both above and below at that moment & location. Very clear shot for 30sec exposure; must have been very smooth up there!
