IMHO it is not ice on the intakes, but merely reflections. After a 3-4 hour flight at temperatures below -50°C, it would be highly unlikely for ice being present. It sublimates at a rate of about 1mm/h. LH's AI on 744s is automatic.

This one doesn't seem so but it looks quite drastic when you fly over the area at night time.
