Very nice plane, I'm just wondering why the landing gear is deployed in the water?

There is not much space between the water and ther door!

Beautifull picture. Note the landing gear down and minimal door sill clearance while taxiing (cabin may flood if wings tip over to the other side)

Littlepit more wawes and it wont swim anymore. Russian made work horse. No glamour, no fine scenery. But it works, all the time! ( mostly )

Rare. In action. From the distant region of Russia. My thanks to the photographer!

Awesome plane, I've always been impressed by Russian designs. I like the rugged looks their machines have, unlike all the "pretty boy" looks of western jets! I think this plane has the APU in the starboard engine and it can actually be used during takeoff to provide a little extra thrust although Im not a 100% sure on that. Maybe someone will expand. That said...they should have designed this plane with hatches (like the old WWII Catalinas), that low sill does not seem like a good idea...

Very rare shot of the Be200. I thought having the door open was stupid too but I think it's actually taxing out of the water so it's wheels should (depending on the surface beneath) stop it from sinking. Still - one wake would make a big puddle to mop up in the cabin!

The gear is down becouse it is probaly about to taxi up on the dock. Secondly the door is open but not as close to the water as you may think, becouse the nose is pushing up a little wave infront of the plane and makes it look much closer. Use your eyes and mind people :-)

Fantastic aircraft, multi-purpose, good shot, good color, she's just cruisingl, only problem is photo cut right wingtip off.
