Guess that some people will never be open and respectful. Maybe they should leave there safe little shelter sometime and taste the real world.

I find it great that they are all enjoying their job and living/working the life as they want.

Being a European living in the Middle-East I can tell you that some traditions are changing quickly, and in my mind for the better, but still you need to respect people that like to uphold them.

Happy landing to all.

You're absolutly right about that we shouldn't discuss religion on this website. But this has nothing to do with religion. Its just demeaning towards woman to say you can be a co-pilot, but you have to cover your head. But i am glad for here that she doesnt have to stay home like in all the surrounding countries.

To the anonymous visitor who responded to the Argentinian: Iran requires women to wear the hijab - which is a head scarf - NOT veils. Their faces are never covered. Get over it. Different people have different cultures.

Thank you Mohammadreza joon for sharing this excellent photo!

Nice shot.
Too sad that people here do not keep it professional and cannot tolerate religious beliefs of other nations. That lady with all the restrictions in her country has made it to the cockpit while we have no such restrictions in our countries. Well done guys!

Do not see anything shocking or special here.

I bet you she will give the old guys a run for their money when I comes to knowledge and understand of the theory.

Many ignorant people here do not understand other cultures and although the tradition is to cover their hair for women, this doesnot mean they will back down or are submissive.

Also a lot of the comments here remind me about what I heard colleagues say when they first saw all black crews in Africa.

The fabric of the hijab is very thin, like gauze or muslin - no problem hearing through it. They do the same with mobile phones, and never seem to have any trouble hearing.

Well done her on becoming a FO!!

With all respect, this is not an ordinary, every day situation.Never seen before here in Airliners Net. Must have been a long and hard way for this happy women to reach this privileged position. At least a great exception. And it must be a little strange for a captain to achieve a relaxed cockpit interaction having on his right side a first officer he will never see the face. If not shocking, at least a very polemic and different picture.

Notice the Cigarettes right behind the captain's seat
Anonymous

Okay so 'someone' is in the right seat but you can't tell me it's a male or female because it's hiding under all 'that'. One step forward but still so many steps behind. I don't care who's flying as long as they're sane and know their stuff.

Guys, the face is not covered... Women only cover their hair in Iran.

Perhaps a step forward for Iran! I really hope so!!

Marvelous!this picture shows Classic to Modern, and the hard decission of Iranian women in different fields of social activities against concern limitations!
Congratulation to the first femail co-pilot of Mahan Air, Bozorgzadegan Bahareh who is so serious, sever and well interested in aviation and hope more success, long safe life and happiness for her. & 4**** seems to be less for this young lady.

Thank you very much for this picture, caused to pay attention to the determined women for social activities against so many limitations arround them in Islamic republic of Iran.women who try to pass through different obstacles, shoulder to shoulder of the men!and usually their efficiencies are higher.
I do not know what has been the policy? but one lady as a co-pilot and as a sample is astonishable but positive anyhow!
regarding headscarf as a post modern symbol of islam,it acts as a head-phone filter too!
But anyway, congratulation to pioneer co-pilot young lady and her company Mahan Air, to open more facilities to young women as a crew members in near future.and hope to see front face photos of such a resolved ladies indeed.
5* will be all right for both.

Great shot Mohammad Reza, you have paid attention to a new and unic scene in cockpit which will be interesting all over the world.more focus to the main item which make this picture different, will be more appreciated and admirable.it is the challenge of the young lady in the country like Iran nowadays, where you ought to fight to earn your rights through so many limitations!
Congratulation to the young serious 1st staff and her fellow workers all...

Amir from Iran:
Dear Farhadi Aref;I think you shot the best subject to stimulate the visitors arguments regarding the competition of 50% of Iranians who are called women
in society of Iran Islamic republic, with its unequal rules between different sexes!that is why ladies are eager to occupy any space in any fields as well as men do.
repetition of such items and photos, will follow most comments and reviews for mutual understanding and better comprehension amoung visitors.
You will get 5 stars rating for your intelligence!

Nice photo Mohammadreza. Thank you for sharing something a little bit different to the average a-net cockpit shot! I have been amused at the reaction of some commenters who have jumped to conclusions about the role of women in Iran, and particularly about their clothing.

To the visitor from the Netherlands: the gold-coloured handles are cockpit evacuation devices located above the sliding cockpit windows. In the event of emergency, you open the window, grab a handle and jump out. A 10m steel tape attached to an inertia reel controls descent.

I remember being surprised when I was lucky enough to join a CX A340 crew in the cockpit for approach and landing at Sydney. They briefed me on the evacuation procedure: open the window, throw out the rope and climb down! Old tech compared to the A300!

What does make this photo attractive and disputable?
we have seen so many cockpit photos, but we have not seen so many comments for those!
refer to a nice photo with a swedish female captain
in SAS, MC Donnell Douglas DC-9-82 on August 5, 2010
with the number of comments 5 only!?
What does make above photo separate from other similar ones with 33 comments since now !?
I think most of the commenters feel sympathy with the goal of the young female first officer and respect her struggles in the society, where we know the conditions more or less, and it is great.

Hey,this is our lovely girl Bahareh Bozorgzadegan who put her power and electronics BS in wardrobe and started aviation soon after she found it is possible to take part to related PPL & CPL classes in spite of parents disagreement ! she tried independently and didnt hesitate in her way to overcome the obstacles.
finally she did and now is first officer of Mahan Air.
Hope more success and long secure life for her.

When I read the headlines about the first female pilot in Mahan, I knew it must be Bahareh. Since she was born and up to now, she has been smart, strong, serious, focused and perfect to be the first in any filed, like aviation. She overcame more obstacle than any man could. This picture reflects that well. I am proud of my neighbor, years ago.

Amoung high number of comments for this unic photo, I feel exactly the commenter,s sympathy upon this young strugglist lady as a co-pilot in Mahan,IRI system.
Is there any other Airlines in the free world to absorb such a great talented female pilot, to improve her elegance, powerty and make her free from tight side abnormal regulations in said country???
She will get 5 stars undoubtedly...

First of all thanks to Mohammad reza photographer, and 5 star for him, for opening free discussions in this site unwantedly and intelligently !
5 stars for Mahan air, starting to change the atmosphere of personnels "not to be for men only" although, it is so pale and weak, while we see the high ratio vice versa in Holland as an example.

And 5*****stars to self sufficient first officer for standing amoung men alone to say we the women are existing too! in an Islamic country where the men leadership is special, unic in the world, and very strong!!!
Hope succeed for all...

IRAN islamic rep. is the center of disscussions in any field amoung the people of new world! because of strangeness of their acts, talks, ideas, programes, etc. which most of those back to 1440 years ago and represent contrariety with 21 century !

This photo has been so discussionable and great,if we could see 90 to 180 degree shots clockwise too, there would be better comprehension of creative power of Islamic designers for women in IRI.

It,s great! 58 comments, while this picture is hidden and not watchable now.
I read previous comments, and the specific subject has stimulated some visitors to discuss differently! mostly those from Iran, the country where, there are so many limitations in newspapers, Tv. and other telecomunications, and such a free tribuns will be wellcomed!
Therefore, five stars for young lady 1st officer, photografer, Mahan Air and this tribune as well.

Thank you for sharing this unique photo, Farhadi Aref;
As an American citizen, I am obviously not as "aware" of social conditions in other countries as many on A.net are, but I do know enough to realize what a difficult struggle this talented young lady must have had, in getting to where she is now, and I wish to congratulate her on her achievement.
Also, to Mahan Air....they have very forward thinking management!

She's not the only female first officer in Iran; I know at least four airlines who have hired lady pilots. In Iran there is no ban on ladies becoming airline pilots. The hardest part is becoming captain, although there's no rule banning it, it has not unfortunately happened yet.
