A visitor from United States posted Fri December 18, 2009:The hole on the rear is indeed APU exhaust. What looks to be a hole above & to the left of it is the aerodynamic, weighted end of a trailing wire antenna that is deployed in conjunction with another one (located at the rear belly) for VLF/LF/MF band communications. The humps atop the fuselage are for a variety of satellite communications -- Inmarsat, Iridium, AFSATCOM/UHF SATCOM, DSCS & MILSTAR. Black patch is for VLF/VLF receive. Aircraft is used as a 'doomsday' airborne command post, & also often just to transport US Secretary of Defense or other senior DOD officials around the world.
A visitor from - posted Sat August 15, 2009:I have seen this bird on ground but from a distance - this is a great picture, and shows a lot of detail that could not be seen from the distance! great shot.
A visitor from United States posted Sun October 1, 2006:Idk if im seeing things or what, but look under the nose wheel and right of the right main, is there a bird on fire?! Great shot, angle, and focus
A visitor from Australia posted Thu April 27, 2006:Any time USA air force is in Australia is great
A visitor from Greece posted Tue January 3, 2006:Really nice picture!!One question though...How come these birds were not accused of being terrorists??They were lucky I guess!!
A visitor from Germany posted Mon December 26, 2005:Great shot!! The plane is taking off isn't it due to the not fully extended flaps and the heat out of the nozzles....but what is that black smoke on the outer left main gear !?
A visitor from Brazil posted Fri December 16, 2005:Beautiful bird (the big One). Very good photo.
A visitor from Germany posted Mon November 28, 2005:As the plane seems to be landing, the risk of a bird strike is less than it would be on the take off. And there is no wheel on the wing. The wheel you see right under the wing is in fact the nose wheel. It's just the perspective.
A visitor from United States posted Mon November 28, 2005:Indeed, the two antennas seen attached to the tail are for HF communication.
A visitor from Australia posted Mon November 28, 2005:G'day mate, Tommo here. Great shot dude. My shots wern't so great, but they may get on when i have time to submit a couple. Keep up the awesome work dude.
A visitor from Mexico posted Sat November 26, 2005:Air Force One is like the flying Whitehouse. This one is like the flying Pentagon. You can command the armed forces from there too.
A visitor from Canada posted Sat November 26, 2005:I reckon a lot us fellow photographs here on Anet can relate to your comment ;) Fantastic shot mate, absolutely love it.
A visitor from United States posted Sat November 26, 2005:A rare bird indeed. This is also considered classified in the USA. I read where some folks had their equipment taken away for photoging this Doomsday Jet. Beautiful shot. Congrats. For getting away with it. :)
A visitor from Singapore posted Sat November 26, 2005:Note that there is an extra hole right above the APU exhaust. I never seen it before.
A visitor from Singapore posted Sat November 26, 2005:I'm afraid of bird strike, too many flock of birds.
A visitor from New Zealand posted Sat November 26, 2005:Now correct me if Im wrong but the humps and aerials on the roof are various antennas and satellite links, the "cables connected to the tail" are for HF Coms (the little antennas are VHF but the lower frequency HF needs a larger aerial) and the birds COULD be a danger if enough of them went through the compressors of the engine. As for the second hole on the tail, by the APU exhaust, I think its a counter measure discharge point. Last but not least, the "wheel on the wing" is simply the nose wheel seen through the gap left by the inboard aileron. COOL AIRCRAFT AND COOL PHOTO!! Well done.
A visitor from United States posted Fri November 25, 2005:Great

A visitor from Romania posted Fri November 25, 2005:Oh, dudes! These birds may taste better than those Kentucky Fried Chickens; burnt with those engines!
