Great shot of the plane. I wonder what they are doing to it. Joseph Harper (8)
I seen this to at the museum, the tour guide that was with us said that the engine blew the cylinder head out when they were ferrying the aircraft back or someone was ferrying it, and it was missing thus causing the hole, and when it got to the museum, instead of plugging the hole they decided to leave it and put the head there
How the ???? did this happen
Not real. they must have forgotten the dust cap
This is a one of a pilot's worst nightmaers. I flew R-3350 Super Compounds for 4000 hours but never had anything like this happen. In fact, I only had to feather one once.
I guess this is what you call an air cooled engine!
....wow.... | |
Does raise a lot of questions. Looks also as if this beauty was smacked with some hail!
Looks like someone i shaving a little fun with the insurance guys. the still intact exhaust plugs give it away....
Ralph, great image and glad it made it into the database. Thanks for supporting Airliners.net.
This a 'moth-balled cylinder. There is a yellow plastic plug in one port and a cover over the other. If it was a working cylinder, the intake and exhaust manifolds would have been bolted at these locations. Strange. Leaves a lot of questions.
??!? I KNEW these bolts in my pocket were supposed to go somewhere...
Great clarity, composition, and gives an immediate visceral feeling of trouble and danger.
Bang!!!! Ups! Great shot. Sure not see something like that everyday. Thx for bringing it to us.
