A visitor from Canada posted Wed May 13, 2009:Beauty! It's definitely a take off though, although a plane this size would require considerable power with full flaps and gear down on approach, at that height engines would be at idle so you would see less heat. (Engines are put to idle usually between 10 and 20 feet above the runway and you just flare out until touch down) =)
A visitor from Netherlands posted Sat December 13, 2008:This is a take-off, it`s Menzies in the background. If it was landing, you already would have seen that on the news ;-)cause it would run out of runway . . .
A visitor from Netherlands posted Thu May 1, 2008:I believe the bolts are never spinning. Only the outboard wheel half spins, not the inboard wheel half. Correct me if I'm wrong

A visitor from Netherlands posted Sun March 30, 2008:Really beautiful pic indeed. About the landing/take-off matter; I couldn't see it myself either, angle of attack could mean both, and while the heat-haze caused by the engines might seem to indicate it's a take-off, don't forget that a landing, certainly of such a big jet, requires a lot of power too (I believe smthin like 2/3 or 3/4 of the maximum power possible). Personally I think the most convincing argument is the wheels; you can recognise individual bolts which shows that the wheels haven't been spinning; therefore I believe it's a landing.
A visitor from France posted Tue March 25, 2008:It is a take-off on rway 24. You can see Martinair Cargo behind. Thanks all for the kinds comments (Jonathan.)

A visitor from United States posted Sun March 23, 2008:Love the MD-11!! Not only does this capture it at its best, but the wet runway adds to the effect of those 3 powerplants!! One question I can't seem to make out...is it landing or taking off?

A visitor from Germany posted Sat March 22, 2008:Stunning details on this one. But is it landing or taking off? The engine blast suggests a take off, but then the wheels seem to to standing still?
