I lived in Florida for 19 years and never once got this close to the shuttle. Who would've thought my first semi-closeup encounter with the space shuttle would be in Bellevue, Nebraska? Quite a fine looking pair of birds. BIG thanks go out to Karly Kolden and the whole Kolden family for passing on the word of the shuttle's arrival and the access that was given to me. I couldn't have gotten this shot without them! Truely a once in a lifetime experience. Canon 350D. Canon 100-400L/IS

Hey, I was there on that hill. Probably when you took the photo. Nice job, Justin.

Nice one, I was also there when you took that. I was thinking about this site and kicking myself for not remembering my camera. Great shot though, and she used up about the entire 10,000 ft of runway that Offutt has when she took off!

Do you think that people laughed at the guy who first suggested transport of the shuttle on the back of a 747?

Sadly, this combination was invented by germans in WWII, named "Mistel", a fighter over a unmanned and filled with explosives Bomber

What a great shot. I love it. I saw Discovery launch in December of '06 and I'll never forget it. Thanks for sharing.

I was there when this stopped by as well- my parents could only convince me to leave once it started to get dark! Watching it leave the next day was a truly impressive sight.
