1358 GMT (9:58 a.m. EDT). Touchdown! Discovery is back home. The left main gear impacted first followed by the right. The nose wheel is still up as aerodynamic braking is always useful when one carries a load like this. Welcome home Discovery!

What a brilliant mind, to have devised this method of transporting the Space Shuttle. I can see the modification to the horizontal stabilizers and the brackets that support the Shuttle, but I wonder what other modifications the jumbo required to handle this highly unusual load? What a truly awesome plane the jumbo is.

The left quarter shot lends great detail of both aircraft.i can determine that this shot was at nosewheel touchdown as the slats and spoilers are still extended

For the question on what is the hanging from the elevator stab "
The extended rear empennage fins are designed to stabilize the SCA when airborne with her payload -the Space Shuttle."
