The shape of the plane is great

Faster than a speeding bullet, this incredible wild stallion of the skies zips through the stratosphere at nearly ten soccer fields per second. It looks Very 21st century-ish despite its maiden flight in 1962!

Blackbird always deserves 5 stars. it was a dream aircraft back when we were young lads aspiring to be fighter pilots in Indian Air Force. Legendary.

SR-71 - 5 stars... no matter what photograph

This shot of the Blackbird shows everyone who views it what can be accomplished by a group of dedicated people, from the people who designed it to the people who flew and maintained it. I was lucky to be TDY at Kadena AFB on Okinawa and witnessed the plane in person. From the F-15's who took off first to provide security, to the KC-135 Tanker who took off next to refuel the Blackbird after takeoff, to the Security vehicles that escorted the Blackbird from it's Hangar to the runway-it was all very impressive. I was standing about 1/2 mile away from the runway at Kadena AFB and upon the Blackbird rolling down the runway for takeoff-the ground I was standing on was shaking and the sound was deafening. This plane to me is the Ultimate to what can be accomplished by a group of talented and dedicated personnel who believe in themselves and the cause they are undertaking.

Ooo... what can we say???????

Keep in mind this is '50's technology... Once retired and resurrected to be again retired. Now it is available for all to see in museums across the country. My favorite display is in Hutchison, Kansas, where in the entry of the museum you come face-to-face with a SR-71 coming directly at you, the view very similar to this photo.

Really like those ground level shots of the SR-71 taxing.

To the American poster who witnessed the SR-71 taking off : Amen. This aircraft, just like the Apollo project, shows what talent, energy, money and dedication can achieve.
