The cockpit of a very special bird. The NASA flight crew is preflighting the aircraft for a 6 hour mission INTO the eye of Cat 4 hurricane Earl. It was sobering when the audible alarms for such things as "ALERT- GROUND WARNING" was heard as part of the test. The Genesis and Rapid Intensification Processes (GRIP) experiment is a NASA Earth science field experiment in 2010 that is being conducted to better understand how tropical storms form and develop into major hurricanes.
