What a mess, the sooner they replace these things the better. Great photo, lots of detail there.

Very unique subject. The aging United States fleet of orbiters has that "Air France dirty" look to them.

Great photo of a great machine, 5/5.
But come on people... Given the forces these things are subjected to, they continue to look amazingly good. Try hurling any jet plane into the atmosphere at almost 8 km/s and see how IT looks after that =) Anyhow, sad to see the shuttle being retired soon, but it's time to move on and pick up from where Apollo 17 left off. Good luck to Discovery and her crew.

It's not dirty. Those are scorch marks from entering the atmosphere at 17,500 miles per hour. Note the angle of the scorch from the leading wing edge, heading back and up towards the OMS. It shows the angle of attack on the atmosphere.
Beautiful!

It's no matter whether she is dirty or not. The issue is: it's an astonishing machine! Nice shot!
