One quite impressive candle (really from 2 SRBs and three engines) celebrating the 230th birthday anniversary of the signing of the American Declaration of Independence was lit today. Discovery started STS-121 mission with a liftoff at 2:37:55 pm EDT (1837:55 GMT) from the Kennedy Space Center in Florida. End of roll manouver (at 2:38:13 PM EST @ 1002MPH & T+00:18). [Canon 1Ds Mk II; F/2.8 400mm L IS; ISO 100; shutter speed 2000]

Great use of space, and rich contrast in colors.

Nice to see such a beautiful blue sky contrasting the white smoke and orange flame. Also, the huge length of the soke and flame is quite evident as the shuttle fuel tank, solid rocket boosters are quite long -by human measures. Great shot.

I thought it was a good picture because of the nice colors. The sky is blue, the smoke is white and the flame is orange.I also liked the clarity and details.
