"I can't think of a better place to be here on the Fourth of July and Independence Day, to be getting ready to launch into space. To all the folks at Kennedy Space Center and the Shuttle program, thanks a lot for working so hard in the last dew days and the last year to get us ready. To all the folks on the Florida east coast, we hope to very soon get you up-close-and-personal look at the rocket's red glare" said by CDR Steven Lindsey over the radio. Here you go commander! This is your rocket's red glare!

Perfect composition ! Can almost hear the awesome noise & feel the pressure pulsations as the shuttle lifts off !

Well done on capturing the moment. I was there for that launch, and it was difficult to not only keep up with the Shuttle, but to take a shot as clear as this. To see a launch was just fantastic !

Simply amazing! I have never seen such clarity and detail out of any shuttle shot before. I love how you can see the flame from the shuttle's engines!

This is by far the best shuttle takeoff shot that I have ever seen. High detail, perfect focus, shutterspeed and aperture. Great vertical dimension. I can see this pic as a 5 ft. high poster being sold at the nasa space museum.

What appeals to me is the blue color of the sky contrasting with the brightness of the flame , the composition (which shows the scale of the Shuttle and boosters compared to the rocket blast), and the details (like the small shuttle motors firing next to the mains).
