"Discovery" on STS-120 to the ISS. Launch time 11:38 a.m. EDT. Approx. T + 00:10 and the NASA Space Shuttle System is accelerating through 797 feet at 992 MPH. The white things falling in the exhaust plume and one floating above the cockpit are disposable cardboard covers of the RCS system. I am using a Canon 1Ds MKII with a 600mm F/4 L IS and a 2X multiplier from a location approx. 5,535 meters from L-39A.

Thrust ratio greater than 1:1 equals great fun! Amazing shot -- check out the heat waves! 5*

There is a bit of heat effects but with this amount of energy being released it is expected.

Should have considered a better choice of location of the logo.

Amazing photo! But I believe the speed/altitude figures are inaccurate. If he is only at 797 feet AGL and 0+10, he is not at 992 MPH yet. Keep up the great work with the photos!
