This is Enterprise being rolled out to Launch Pad 39A for fit checks prior to Columbia's delivery. I understand how the two Orbiter's may be confused but this is definately Enterprise. No big deal but just for the sake of accuracy.
Yes, this is a great photo but it is not Columbia. This is Enterprise rolling to the pad for fit checks in 1979.
This is definitely Enterprise, not Columbia. You can see the "Enterprise" name on the orbiter itself.
Interesting photo. I did not know that Enterprise rolled out to the pad. This is Columbia we see in that photo or a prepartion for STS-1. I remember following this as a kid. It seemed like sci-fi and now its almost over.
I'm fairly certain that's Enterprise, not Columbia. Columbia had black chine tiles, and Enterprise had the gray-panel RCS jets. It's probably during rollout for fit checks before Columbia had actually finished construction.
The crew of the first Shutle flight were commander John Young (Gemini 3, Gemini 10, Apollo 10 and 16) and pilot Bob Crippen (rookie)
Beautiful snapshot of history
