N81NA (cn 46712/106) Rare tarmac view of "Renee" who went on to fly for American and Hawaiian. Restored from original print. Note the reflection of the air stairs and #1 engine on her almost new lower fuselage. Eastern DC-9 "Whisperjet" in the lower left.

The memories.

Thanks to the folks who have posted about this shot in the forums...and for the visitor comment. It's my all time sentimental favorite.

In response to forum questions, I researched and found this was only operating from JFK and LGA to Florida at the time, not EWR. It seemed unlikely to me that EAL would be sharing adjacent gate space with a competitor, which nixed NAL's JFK "Sundrome" terminal (Terminal 6).

A National DC-10 named "Renee" and an Eastern DC-9 Whisperjet together in the same frame make this an iconic aviation picture of the 1970s. But the I have to hand it to the photographer, who has a keen eye. The perspective in this shot makes it one for the books-- it isn't the standard three-quarters view on takeoff pic. Wow!
