The F-22 looks positively alien next to the P-51, but neither loses any asthetic appeal to the other. Both are beautiful, functional, deadly looking airplanes. Great capture of the contrast.

Very nice pic.
Only 4 stars though, due to too much 'airliners.net' ruining the dynamics of this beautiful image.

...and yet, the way we get the planes up in the air is still the same aerodynamics! They could do their homework back in the 1940s, the Mustang is still a hot machine..! This photo is spectacular. Thanx a lot! /Joz in Sweden

It's amazing how even after fifty years, the P-51 still is a wonderful plane.

85% of great aviation photography is being at the right place at the right time, with the right gear. 10 % is waiting for the right shot and composing it well. And 5% is sheer dumb luck. Look at how the prop has been caught at the perfect position. See how the Mustang's right wing D-Day stripes continue the line of the Raptor's strake, and how the right tailplane of the P-51 stands out in such contrast against the tail of the jet.
This is a "magic" shot -Adam you should be producing this as a poster and selling it at airshows.

Amazing photograph. I've been looking for one like this for many years! Next time, put the watermark at the bottom of the page . . . I'm sure many people, like me, would have it as their desktop if it weren't plopped in the middle of the pic.
AMAZING work!

Sweet light, contrast, clarity, focus and an incomparable subject matter. Would have been perfect without the writing across the center of the photo. Very distracting.

This is such a clear, sharp and well lit shot showing the old and the new, that still has some pretty good prop blur, and the overlap is perfect - well done.

Good angle on the shot shows the relative sizes of the two aircraft. Both birds are clean, too, so they're really shown off at their best.

Here's a suggestion for A.net: I'd buy a poster of this shot. If y'all would share the proceeds with the photogs, everyone would win: the photogs for greater exposure on this site, A.net would get some cash, and I'd have a cool pic on the wall. How about it?

A superb shot showing the huge leap in aviation technology in the past half century! It's quite amusing to notice that although the aircraft and its technology have grown in size, the space devoted to the pilot in the cockpit seems to have not!

Wow, that F-22 looks like it's bigger than an F-14 and those are huge! i love the contrast between the old and the very new, but it makes you wonder, what are they testing right now, the f-22 was tested in 1992! 5* this is a very crisp photo
