What I love about this picture is how great the liveries look together. A bit livelier and more interesting than today's bland exercises in minimalism.

Seven two heaven!!

A visitor from United States posted Wed November 6, 2013:
This possibly the greatest picture taken I have ever seen.
The nostalgia of what the 80's and the airline industry represented all in one photo.
The 727's in it's prime, the graininess of the picture and the old pain schemes just bring back so many memories of when air travel was a fun adventure.

A visitor from France posted Mon October 1, 2012:
Welcome to the 727 party!

A visitor from - posted Sat June 16, 2012:
Only American's color scheme survives to this day, and all these brands are now only three. And the three appear in the picture. You get that 70's feeling on this pic

A visitor from United States posted Sat April 28, 2012:
Heyday of 727

A visitor from United States posted Thu December 15, 2011:
A fantastic capture! Eight 727's! I really wonder if we will all get misty-eyed in 25 years time by a a picture of 8 A-319's, anno 2011. I don't think so...

Great

If the 747 was (and she still is ) the "Queen of the Skies" then back when this photo was taken, the 727 was the "Princess"

A visitor from - posted Wed August 24, 2011:
I loved the 727. Great to see so many of them in different liveries in this picture.

A visitor from - posted Wed August 24, 2011:
This photo almost makes me want to cry, especially since it's focused on that NW 727. My very first flight was on a NW 727-200ADV from BWI to DTW. It's super impressive that there are legendary 727s from seven U.S. majors, captured in one shot! And out of all of those airlines, only THREE exist, today... AA, DL, & UA. CO is basically gone with the UA merger ... TWA is gone(merged into AA) ... EA is gone (liquidated). Sigh, we'll never have American glory days of aviation like this, again. At one point, the U.S. had over a dozen 'majors'... now we have about four?? Wonderful photo! Did anyone else catch that red New York Air DC-9 behind the EA A300??

A visitor from - posted Wed August 24, 2011:
Great pic... To think of the hisotry here.. NW merged w Delta... Continental is now w United.. TWA is now w AA

A visitor from United States posted Thu December 9, 2010:
The 727's ruled the roost back in the day. Wonderful days those were. I wish for those days to return. Unfortunately, they never will. No more TWA, Eastern, Northwest, and now Continental.

A visitor from United Kingdom posted Fri November 5, 2010:
So many B-727.

A visitor from Malaysia posted Sat September 11, 2010:
TWA is gone. And so is Eastern. Now NW is merged with Delta.

A visitor from United States posted Thu August 12, 2010:
Look at all those colors.

A visitor from - posted Sat July 18, 2009:
This photo is a classic. It's like a high school year book...some old friends we never see again, and others change. But there is always that one friend that stays the same (reference to AA)

A visitor from United States posted Thu January 15, 2009:
Note the only livery still around is AA, they really got it right. By the way (today) the 727 burns way too much gas and the power to weight not too good either. Long live the 757!

This is so cool! I remember flying a Delta 3-holer our of La Guardia in 1980. This is very much what it looked like that day, except there were even more Eastern jets on the ramp. All 727s. Man I miss those days!! T-tails and aft mounted engines are quickly becoming a thing of the past... so sad.

Fabulously nostalgic with all those 72's and lurking in the distant fog a lone EA A-300.

NW's old colors were really beautiful and eyecatching also and make for a great focal point in this photo.
